The Tail Wagging The Dog

Fellow Malaysians,

You know we're in trouble when the cops start flying our beloved Jalur Gemilang upside down.
You also know we're in trouble when the newspapers start believing their own lies and slants.

It’s disgusting to read the mainstream media nowadays, especially spinning gasing Ah Chun’s articles in the star. I refuse to dignify it with a link here. Not only does he downplay the bloggers’ role and efforts in the outcome of the elections, but he also demeans Jeff Ooi.

The only positive thing is that he admitted the mainstream media has to relook at its editorial policy given the maturity of Malaysian readers.

Err..I hate to wake you up from dreamland to break this to you, but you kinda missed the bus there, my delusional spin doctor.

Spinning gasing Ah Chun, spin it any way you want. Our Jeff won. And you had better address him as Yang Berhormat, geddit?

I believe it’s time to take the “no buy no lies” campaign of paper-free Tuesdays one step further. Let us refuse to purchase newspapers for one week i.e. Monday 17th March to Sunday 23rd March 2008 to show that we are mature enough not to swallow lies, one sided reporting and blatant cover-ups. For more msm shenanigans, read Shanghai's report here, Tony Yew's take here, Haris of The People's Parliament here, Zorro's sword thrust here and Sledgehammer's wake-up call to advertisers here.

Please get your news fix from the internet. There are plenty of unbiased news sites and blogs. Let us send a strong message to the government controlled mainstream media by denting their sales figures for one week. Please vote with your money by not buying the newspapers for one week.

If you would like to see a fairer media in the future, please forward this message to all fellow Malaysians in your address book. Thank You.

Hi Dave

The problem is Dave that a very large number of newspaper buyers buy a paper like The Star for the classified ads, not the news, comment or features. They do this for all sorts of reasons, whether they are looking for a job, buying a new car, or a house or renting a flat or buying and selling various products. So it doesn't work to ask folk to cease to buy it even for a whole week. Best to ask them not to read the news and comment coverage, or if they do to also look at the news websites to get a balanced view.

sincerely
Peter Hassan

People....word is there will soon be THE alternative...
Keep your eyes and ears peeled!
Peter, quite well defined.
There perhaps is just no other subsitute for the ole paper, when one takes a dump!

jjmm - i agree with you. thanks for visiting and your comment.

peter - what you say is true indeed. however my proposal is merely to send a strong message that we're done taking shit from them.

tony - i certainly hope so, bro. thanks for linking your post and catch you at the usual place.

Dave,

We should boycott all the crap be it from the Malaysian media to the blogs that shove shit around.

Especially the wankers from all blogs.

Everyone becomes the monsters they hate.

Dave, remember the games played at Birthday parties....blindfold the poor kid and then tell him to put a paper tail to a tailess donkey. this is cruelty to the two legged and four legged! but that is the star for you....chief gasing player ah chun is so giddy spinning that his MCA boss is thinking about him.
By the way Dave, can you get a whiff of a mole in here....tell me who and I buy your next beer at NPC.

zorro,

thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. yes, i remember "pin the tail on the donkey" well.

you're right, zorro, there is a fishy whiff around. i guess it's easy to be brave when you're hiding behind your mother's sarong.

i am proud to say that i do not leave anonymous comments. if you have the balls to say it, than have the balls to put your name to it

i am also equally proud of my blogger friends as they own up to what they say. maybe this merah fler needs a dictionary to figure out the meaning of the word "unmasked". i'm willing to donate an oxford or a collins - you can choose.

unfortunately, balls come attached to character. grow some huevos and don't hide anymore, little boy.

U preach to the converted my dear I stopped subscribing to the newspapers about 2 years ago :-)

My Dad of course still gets the NST, but that that is for swatting flies, the odd cockroach and lining the tong sampah. Even he (age 76) gets his news from Malaysiakini!

The solution is not to boycott newspapers. The solution is to have more newspapers. All newspapers have their bias. Even bloggers have their bias. People will speak from their experiences and they may be different for different people. Remember the 3 blind man who tried to describe an elephant?

An informed society means access to more information, not less, no matter how bias that information may be. Wasn't it Friends of Voltaire who summed up his attitude by writing that "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".

Of course, it is also our right whether we want to hear what is being said.

Cheers.
