This
is taken from a friend’s fb status - Having rallies like today's for example is
good for the nation. We have a lot of bored people who don't know what to do on
weekends and need a reason to leave their malls.
This
is the Spanker’s take - Kudos to all concerned for a peaceful assembly. The
police did not use any force and were
on their best behavior. They cleared the roads for the rally-goers to walk to
the stadium from the eight meeting points. They diverted traffic and made it
easier for both motorists and participants. There was no sign of the FRU, which
is normally used to disperse the crowd
The
opposition flers have also proven that they can gather peacefully. Let’s hope this will set the standard for them
for the future. There is no need to demonstrate and run riot in the streets to embarrass
the nation internationally.
There
were two bomb hoaxes – one at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and the other at the
Bar Council building. The police were quick to dispel the rumor with Dang
Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad holding a press conference immediately
after the news broke out.
As
expected, there is a dispute in the turnout, with Malaysiakini claiming a
whopping 100k in the 30k capacity Merdeka Stadium, Malaysian Insider claiming 80k,
the Bar Council claiming 70 – 100k and the cops claiming 40k.
The
Spanker says that if they are using Microsoft Excel to tabulate their figures we will definitely hear
some adjustments in 2 weeks time.
